Project Spotlight:
A Spring-Inspired Bedroom Makeover: From Chaos to Calm – A Little Girl’s Dream Space
By Arwa | Interior Designer & Founder of Babylon Design Studio
There’s something magical about designing a space for a child. It’s not just about furniture or colour palettes—it’s about creating a world they can grow into. A space that feels safe, inspiring, and truly theirs.
This bedroom project was a special one. A little girl’s room filled with energy and play—but in need of calm, clarity, and functionality. And with the arrival of spring, it was the perfect time to hit reset.
The Before:
The original room was vibrant, full of colour, and full of everything. Toys, books, clothes, schoolwork, dolls—there was life everywhere. But that life was starting to feel overwhelming. There was little storage, no clear zones for sleep vs. play vs. homework, and a sense of clutter that didn’t reflect the little girl’s growing needs.
The brief?
• Create calm without losing character
• Introduce a feminine but elegant palette
• Make it feel fresh, soft, and timeless
• Add practical elements: desk, storage, reading zone
And of course—make her feel like it’s her own little world.
The Vision: Spring as a Moodboard
I took inspiration from spring itself: soft pinks, gentle whites, and floral touches. The palette was designed to calm, while still feeling youthful and warm.
Key design pillars:
• Blush & White Base: soft pink tones paired with clean white furniture to visually expand the room
• Butterfly & Floral Accents: a subtle theme to bring in spring without clichés
• Textured Layers: boucle chair, floral rug, sheer curtains to create sensory softness
• Zoning with Purpose: one wall for rest, one corner for creativity, one nook for beauty and imagination
Spring, for me, is about rebalancing. It’s not about stripping back joy—it’s about creating space for it to shine.
The After:
The result is a soft, elevated, functional space that reflects exactly who she is—gentle, playful, and quietly creative.
• A bespoke desk for drawing, writing, and dreaming
• Smart storage hidden in plain sight
• A plush rug for play and story time
• Natural light bouncing across the room with sheer layers
• A butterfly wall to inspire and ground the space in nature
It’s no longer just a bedroom—it’s her sanctuary. A place she can grow into without growing out of.
If you’re thinking of refreshing your child’s room this season, here’s where to start:
• Declutter with your child – make it a bonding activity
• Introduce a fresh colour palette – sage, blush, dusty blue
• Choose dual-purpose furniture – desks with drawers, beds with built-ins
• Add personal touches – framed art, name plaques, fairy lights
• Don’t overcrowd – leave space for imagination to flow
A spring refresh doesn’t have to be a big overhaul. It’s about creating a home that reflects your child’s rhythm—and your own.
Let’s Create Something Beautiful Together
This is what I love most—designing with purpose, for real families. Whether it’s a child’s bedroom, a family living room, or your own sanctuary, your space should feel like a reflection of your growth.
